Spring is the perfect time to refresh your space and start over with a clean, calm environment. If you live in an apartment, you already know how quickly things can feel crowded or messy. The good news is that spring cleaning doesn’t have to be stressful or complicated. With a simple approach and a little patience, you can turn your apartment into a place that feels lighter and more comfortable.

Start Small and Build Momentum

One of the easiest ways to feel overwhelmed is by trying to clean everything at once. It might seem efficient, but it often leads to frustration and unfinished work. Instead, begin with one small area. It could be a single drawer, a corner of your room, or even just your desk. When you finish that space, you’ll feel a sense of progress, and that motivation will carry you forward.

Cleaning in small steps makes the whole process more manageable and less tiring.

Declutter Before You Deep Clean

Before you grab cleaning supplies, take a moment to sort through your belongings. Apartments can easily collect items that you no longer need or use. Clothes that don’t fit, kitchen tools you never touch, or random items sitting in drawers all take up valuable space. Go through your things slowly and honestly.

If something hasn’t been used in a long time, it may be time to donate or throw it away. When you remove clutter first, actual cleaning becomes faster and much easier.

Focus on High-Traffic Areas First

Some parts of your apartment get more use than others. The kitchen, bathroom, and living area are usually the busiest spaces, which means they collect the most dirt and mess. Start your cleaning efforts there. Wipe down surfaces, clean sinks, and organize frequently used items.

Once these areas are fresh and tidy, your entire apartment will already feel much cleaner, even before you move on to less-used spaces.

Don’t Ignore Hidden Spots

It’s easy to clean what you can see, but some of the dirtiest areas are often hidden. Dust and dirt build up under beds, behind furniture, and inside cabinets. Take time to move things around and clean these forgotten spots.

Wipe down baseboards, clean light switches, and check corners where dust tends to collect. These small details may not seem important at first, but they make a big difference in how clean your apartment truly feels.

Use Smart Storage Solutions

Living in an apartment usually means dealing with limited storage. That’s why it helps to think creatively about where and how you store your things. Use shelves, hooks, and organizers to take advantage of vertical space. Keeping items off the floor instantly makes your apartment look neater. When everything has a proper place, it becomes much easier to keep things organized on a daily basis.

Refresh Fabrics and Soft Surfaces

Cleaning isn’t just about hard surfaces. Fabrics in your apartment can trap dust, odors, and allergens over time. Wash your bed sheets, pillowcases, and blankets. If possible, clean your curtains or wipe them down. Vacuum rugs and cushions thoroughly.

These simple steps can make your apartment feel fresher and more comfortable without much extra effort.

Let Fresh Air In

One of the simplest ways to improve your space is by letting in fresh air. Open your windows and allow air to circulate throughout your apartment. This helps remove stale smells and brings in a natural, clean feeling. Even just a few minutes of fresh air can make a noticeable difference in how your home feels.

Take On One Deep Cleaning Project

Spring is a great time to finally handle a task you’ve been putting off. Maybe it’s cleaning out the refrigerator, scrubbing bathroom tiles, or organizing your closet. You don’t need to do everything at once. Just choose one project and give it your full attention.

Completing even one deep cleaning task can make you feel accomplished and inspire you to keep going.

Create a Simple Daily Habit

After putting in the effort to clean your apartment, the next step is keeping it that way. You don’t need a strict or complicated routine. Small habits like putting things back after using them, wiping surfaces, or doing a quick tidy-up before bed can go a long way. These simple actions prevent mess from building up again and help you maintain a clean space without much effort.

Enjoy the Results

Once your apartment is clean and organized, take a moment to appreciate it. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the calm feeling of your refreshed space. Whether it’s watching your favorite show, reading a book, or just resting, you’ve earned that time. A clean apartment isn’t just about appearance, it also brings peace of mind.

Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be perfect or exhausting. With a steady approach and simple habits, you can create a space that feels fresh, open, and truly your own.

Spring always feels like a fresh start. The days get brighter, the air feels lighter, and suddenly we all want to open the windows and let the sunshine in. After months of cozy blankets and darker colors, this is the perfect time to give your apartment a small refresh.

The good news is that you do not need a big budget or a full makeover. A few simple changes can make your space feel new, bright, and ready for the season.

Let the Light In

One of the easiest ways to welcome spring into your apartment is by bringing in more natural light. Start by opening your curtains and giving your windows a quick clean. You might be surprised how much brighter your room feels when sunlight can come through clearly.

If your space still feels a bit dark, consider switching heavy winter curtains for lighter fabrics. Sheer or light-colored curtains allow sunlight to filter in while still giving you privacy. Even small changes like this can make a room feel more open and cheerful.

Add Fresh Plants or Flower

Nothing says spring quite like greenery. Adding plants or fresh flowers is one of the simplest ways to make your apartment feel alive again. A small plant on a coffee table, a few herbs in the kitchen, or flowers on your dining table can instantly brighten the space.

If you are new to plants, start with low-maintenance ones like snake plants, pothos, or peace lilies. They are easy to care for and still give you that fresh spring feeling indoors.

Switch to Lighter Colors

Winter decor often leans toward darker tones and heavier textures. Spring is a great time to lighten things up. Try swapping out a few items like pillow covers, throws, or table linens for softer colors such as light green, pale yellow, soft pink, or creamy white.

You do not need to replace everything. Even changing two or three small pieces can shift the whole mood of your apartment and make it feel more seasonal.

Refresh Your Scents

The way your home smells can change the entire atmosphere. Spring scents tend to be light and fresh, like citrus, lavender, jasmine, or clean linen. Try lighting a candle, using a diffuser, or simply opening the windows to let fresh air circulate.

These small scent changes help create a calm and welcoming environment that matches the season.

Do a Simple Declutter

Spring cleaning does not have to mean deep cleaning every corner of your apartment. Sometimes a quick declutter is enough to make a big difference. Put away items you no longer use, clear off crowded surfaces, and organize small areas like your entryway or coffee table

When your space feels less crowded, it naturally feels calmer and more comfortable.

Create a Small Seasonal Corner

A fun way to celebrate spring is by creating a small seasonal spot in your apartment. This could be a corner of your coffee table, a shelf, or a windowsill. Add a small plant, a candle, a light-colored book, or a simple decorative piece.

It does not have to be complicated. The goal is simply to have a little area that reminds you of the season and adds a touch of personality to your home.

Welcome the New Season

Spring is all about renewal and fresh energy. Even the smallest changes in your apartment can help you feel more connected to the season. Opening the windows, adding greenery, and lightening up your decor can make your home feel brighter and more inviting.

Sometimes welcoming a new season is not about big changes. It is about noticing the small ones and letting them bring a little more joy into your everyday space.

Spring is here, and it’s the perfect time to refresh your apartment! Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be overwhelming—just a few simple steps can make your space feel brand new without taking up your entire weekend.

1. Start with a Plan

Start with a plan before diving in. Make a checklist of areas that need attention, such as dusting hard-to-reach spots, deep cleaning the kitchen and bathroom, decluttering closets and drawers, and freshening up soft surfaces like couches, rugs, and curtains. A plan will keep you focused and help you avoid that “Where do I even start?” feeling.

2. Declutter First

Spring cleaning is easier when there’s less stuff in the way. Go through your apartment room by room and ask yourself:

Do I use this?

Do I love this?

Do I have space for this?

If the answer is “no,” consider donating, selling, or tossing it.

3. Work from Top to Bottom

When cleaning, always work from top to bottom. Dust and dirt fall downward, so start with ceiling fans and high shelves, then wipe down walls and cabinets, and finish with vacuuming and mopping. This method ensures you don’t have to re-clean anything.

4. Refresh Your Kitchen

The kitchen deserves special attention since it gets a lot of use. Wipe down cabinets and handles, clean out expired food from the fridge and pantry, and scrub the sink and garbage disposal. A mix of lemon slices and baking soda can help freshen up the drain. Don’t forget to degrease the stovetop and microwave to get rid of any built-up grime.

5. Make Your Bathroom Shine

In the bathroom, focus on scrubbing the sink, shower, and toilet to keep things fresh. Wash the shower curtain or replace the liner if needed. Take this opportunity to toss out old toiletries and expired makeup, and wipe down mirrors and light fixtures for a polished finish.

6. Freshen Up Your Living Room

The living room is where you relax, so it should feel clean and comfortable. Vacuum rugs and upholstery, making sure to check under the couch for hidden dust. Dust electronics and wipe down remote controls, then rotate or fluff up cushions to give the room a fresh look. Opening windows for a bit of fresh air can also help eliminate any lingering winter stuffiness.

7. Give Your Bedroom a Reset

For the bedroom, washing all bedding, including pillows and mattress covers, will make a big difference. Declutter your nightstands and dressers, and if you have a mattress that needs flipping or rotating, now is a great time to do it. Organizing your closet by swapping out winter clothes for spring outfits will also make getting dressed easier.

8. Don’t Forget the Little Things

Don’t forget the small details. Wipe down doorknobs and light switches, wash reusable grocery bags, sanitize your phone and keyboard, and check smoke detectors to make sure they’re working properly. These little tasks can often be overlooked but contribute to a cleaner and safer home.

9. Bring in Fresh Scents

Once everything is clean, bring in fresh scents to make your apartment feel even more inviting. Light a candle, use essential oils, or simmer a pot of water with citrus slices and herbs. Placing dryer sheets in drawers can also keep things smelling nice.

10. Keep It Up!

The key to keeping your apartment clean is consistency. Doing a quick tidy-up each day, wiping down surfaces regularly, and taking out the trash before it overflows will make future deep cleanings much easier.

Spring cleaning is more than just a chore—it’s a way to reset your space and your mind. Once you’re done, take a moment to relax and enjoy your freshly cleaned apartment. You’ve earned it!

Spring is here, and you know what that means—it’s time for some good old-fashioned spring cleaning!

Giving your apartment a thorough clean not only makes it look great but also helps create a healthier and more comfortable living space. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and dive in, here are some simple and effective tips to get your apartment sparkling in no time.

1. Declutter First

Before you start scrubbing and wiping, take some time to declutter. Go through your closets, shelves, and drawers. Donate or toss out items you no longer need or use.

Clearing out the clutter will make cleaning easier and will give your apartment a more spacious feel.

2. Start High, End Low

When you begin cleaning, always start at the top and work your way down. Dust ceiling corners, light fixtures, and ceiling fans first. Then, move on to surfaces like countertops, tables, and appliances. Finally, clean the floors—sweeping or vacuuming first, and then mopping.

3. Use Natural Cleaners

Consider using natural cleaning products like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice. They are effective, environmentally friendly, and safer for you and your pets.

For example, mix vinegar and water for a great all-purpose cleaner, or use baking soda to scrub surfaces.

4. Don’t Forget Hidden Spots

During your spring cleaning, pay attention to often-neglected areas such as behind furniture, under the bed, and inside cabinets. Dust and vacuum these hidden spots to eliminate dust bunnies and cobwebs.

5. Focus on Windows and Mirrors

Brighten up your apartment by cleaning your windows and mirrors. Use a glass cleaner or a mixture of vinegar and water for streak-free shine. Don’t forget to wash or change your curtains to let more light in.

6. Tackle Fabrics

Wash or dry-clean curtains, throw pillows, and cushion covers. Launder bedding, blankets, and rugs. This will freshen up your apartment and make everything smell clean and inviting.

7. Organize as You Clean

As you clean each room, take the opportunity to reorganize. Use storage bins, baskets, or drawer organizers to keep things tidy.

A well-organized space not only looks better but also makes daily life easier.

8. Pay Attention to Appliances

Give your kitchen appliances some TLC. Clean out the refrigerator, scrub the microwave, and descale your coffee maker. These appliances work hard for you every day, so show them a little love!

9. Refresh the Air

Open windows to let in fresh air while you clean. You can also use air-purifying plants like peace lilies or spider plants to improve indoor air quality. Light a naturally scented candle or use an essential oil diffuser to add a pleasant fragrance to your home.

10. Reward Yourself

Once you’ve finished cleaning, take a moment to admire your hard work!

Treat yourself to something special—a nice meal, a relaxing bath, or a movie night in your freshly cleaned apartment.

Spring cleaning may seem like a big task, but with these tips, you can tackle it efficiently and enjoy the rewards of a clean and rejuvenated apartment. Remember, the key is to take it step by step and not overwhelm yourself. Happy cleaning!

Decorating your apartment is one of the many simple ways to make it look more spacious, lively, and organized. Making your apartment feel like home is important whether you just recently moved into your first one, or you have been calling an apartment home for many years. Here are three inexpensive decorating ideas.

Make Your Apartment More Spacious

Make your apartment feel more spacious by matching your curtain color to the color of the wall. Doing this will blend the colors together creating an unbroken line making the apartment area look larger. Adding vertical lines on the walls or curtains can make a low ceiling seem higher.

You can also change the way you install your curtain rods. Install the curtain rods a few inches below the ceiling instead of putting them directly above the window frame. This way, the viewer’s attention will be drawn upward. And that makes your windows seem taller. The same idea goes with the window’s width. Install each end of the rods a few inches further away from the left and right sides of the frame. Doing this will give the illusion of an expanded width.

Another option to make a small space appear larger is to use light colors like gray or white on the walls and on the floor. Doing this makes the space brighter and that makes it seem bigger too.

Organizing Your Apartment

An effective yet simple way to decorate your apartment is to get furniture that includes storage areas or compartments. For example, you could get a coffee table that has shelves underneath it, a buffet that can store books, blankets, and other various items, or an entertainment system with drawers and doors.

If you are looking for ways to save money, you can often find furniture pieces like these with reasonable prices at a resale shop or even Goodwill. Regardless of where you get them, it is important to make the most of your living space and organization is key. Secret hiding places can help. 🙂

Making Your Apartment Lively

Add personality and color to your space by using decorations such as paintings, plants, pictures, and knick-knacks. House plants are also great for cleaning the air in your place while providing color to the surroundings. Various plants, cacti, and other small succulents are inexpensive and they can really add life to your apartment. Cacti and other succulents are also low maintenance because they do not require frequent watering.

Do you collect pictures from your vacation and trips? Print them out and have them framed. These can be used as fun décor hanging on your walls or standing on tables. Photographs make your place alive while at the same time reminding you of your fond memories.

Another creative way of decorating your walls is with canvas paintings. You can easily buy them online, in stores, or better yet create your own special artwork.

And finally, you can make your apartment more lively by displaying knick-knacks you may have collected from your past. Decorating with antiques and personal treasures is an excellent way to personalize your apartment.

Now it’s your turn. Try out a few of these tips to turn your apartment into your home.

Living in an apartment can be challenging for all sorts of reasons, especially when you’re hoping to achieve an organized place to show off. Whether you’ve just moved into your new Menomonee Falls apartment or you’re planning your move, there are tips to staying tidy you might want to consider.

Convenience is the number one reason people choose to live in apartments. However, renting doesn’t always provide the customization one may find in a home. Homeowners are able to store their belongings in more areas like garages or basements, for instance. Most residents of Apple Valley, Appleton Place, and Cameron Heights Apartments are happy to leave the home-buying for their later years however, and enjoy the convenience of apartment living for now.

By taking some of the steps listed here, you could find yourself a very happy apartment-dweller without a mess to be found! Here are 3 tips for keeping your apartment continually organized.

1. Quality Over Quantity

Think – less is more. Invest in furniture and storage items that offer the most use and will last for years to come. These nicer elements will encourage you to tidy up more consistently too. IKEA is the perfect place to visit for all your apartment decorating needs. They offer unique, cost-effective ways to organize your home and we luckily have a local store in Oak Creek. Look for shelves, storage bins, and closet organizers. Spend time in the kitchen section where you can find cabinet and drawer coordinators. Make a day of it and stop for a yummy snack like Swedish meatballs in IKEA’s cafeteria area. If this is your first or fifth apartment, an IKEA shopping experience is a no-brainer!

2. Use Lids

Surprisingly, your laundry basket and trash can aren’t the only essential places to have a lid. Next time you buy storage supplies, focus on items with lids only too.

Let’s be honest, apartment bedrooms offer closet space with limited functionality. While a cubed shelf may seem like the perfect tool to keep organized, it may just take up more square footage than it’s worth. You don’t need another piece of furniture to keep a space looking clean. Stacking clear, matching storage bins can have the same appeal and be way more effective.

These same rules apply with bathroom organization. Cute baskets for your hair and body products are only helpful if you use everything you own daily. If there are items that don’t need to occupy the front row, utilizing a storage basket is the way to go. While we support this approach, we also suggest purchasing baskets with lids only. These allow you to stack them in a linen closet or under your bathroom vanity in a more clean chaos sort-of-way.

3. Maximize Wall Space

When shopping for the perfect floor plan, you may have been excited by the appliances or amenities. Like most renters, planning on where everything will go doesn’t happen until after the lease is signed. When deciding the locations of knickknacks and decor it’s important to use your walls. Keeping your floors and countertops clear of clutter will allow your entire apartment to look organized. A simple floating shelf here or stacked shelves there, can make all the difference.

We hope this list keeps you organized while enjoying your Menomonee Falls apartment home. Be sure to follow Apple Valley Apartments & Townhomes, Appleton Place Apartments, and Cameron Heights Apartments on social media to keep yourself up-to-date on all the latest property happenings!

Global pandemics aren’t an ideal time for moving to a new apartment. Guidance from family and friends on protecting yourself can be useful, or just fill you with anxiety. Typically, you would be stressing over how many boxes you need or how expensive moving trucks are nowadays. Instead you’re probably thinking how tiny those concerns are in the face of COVID-19. Solutions for moving safely don’t have to be complex or inconvenient. Here are 3 tips for social distancing while swapping homes:

1. Check Cleaning Protocols

Asking questions is essential to protecting yourself beyond just moving day. Apartment communities have tons of high-touch areas shared by residents, guests and delivery drivers. Ask the property manager what steps have been taken to sanitize these surfaces. Intercom buttons, door handles and stair railings should all be cleaned with antibacterial products on a regular basis.

Certain companies handle the cleaning of a vacant apartment differently than others. Professional cleaners usually provide their own cleaning supplies. Oftentimes, those are home or industrial multi-surface cleaners that kill bacteria and germs, but that isn’t always the case. Some cleaning service companies may use products they prefer or use as a personal preference. These could include things like less effective natural cleaning alternatives or even essential oils. Make sure you confirm what professional cleaning was performed in your new apartment, prior to moving in.

Morgenson Realty has doubled-down on common area cleanings on a daily basis. That means we have cleaners on-site, at each location, cleaning all high-touch areas twice a day, every day. Our cleaners are clocking those times during the outbreak, along with extra assistance from our property managers and maintenance staff.

2. Prep Prior to Moving Day

All of us WANT to be the people with labeled boxes and neatly arranged clothes still on the hangers. Realistically, the majority of us are panicking last minute with everything we own in trash bags. If you consider the health risks and laundry list of logistics, moving can feel impossible. While it may seem like you need everything you own immediately after moving in, you can probably live with less. Pack things that are necessary for everyday life separate from your, “post COVID-19 crisis belongings”. Is that a thing? It is now!

Solo is the best social distancing option available. Minimize your in-person contact by taking whatever you can yourself. This will mean more trips from your old place to your new apartment, but keeps your risk level low. Don’t worry, your family won’t be disappointed they couldn’t help. Not at all.

Moving can be freeing for some folks. It’s like spring cleaning, right? Finally, you get to toss that stained tupperware, old shower curtain, and drawers filled with random receipts. Thinking about fresh new things can be exciting and all of a sudden you’re filling your trash can with chipped coasters and your entire expired spice rack. Unfortunately, replacing those possessions isn’t as easy as it used to be. Stores aren’t as focused on stocking shelves with home decor items and Amazon shipping options are dating over a month, in some cases. If you’re able, salvage your current shower curtain and avoid risking weeks worth of shower splash onto your new bathroom floor.

3. Know Your Must-haves

Before physically moving or even completing your leasing process online, you’ll need to find the perfect apartment. While shopping is far from easy with a safer at home order, you can prioritize your rental needs once you decide your must-haves. Start by eliminating apartments that are outside of your budget or that you shouldn’t settle on.

Filter your online search results and only show listings you would consider applying to that day. If you know having a washer and dryer in your apartment is one of your requirements, eliminate all housing options that do not offer in-unit laundry. In addition, verify different properties by looking up their reviews. Current and past residents may have already done the legwork for you. If the only reviews you can find online talk about bed bugs, it’s safe to say that apartment is a hard pass.

On the other hand, maybe you’re considering scheduling in-person showings at a couple of fancy properties. Is it fun to tour rental units that provide billiard rooms and other luxurious community amenities? Sure! Is it safe to schedule a tour if those units aren’t affordable? Not right now. Be thoughtful about what is realistic both for your safety and the safety of those leasing agents or property managers offering a showing.

Remember the popular theme of this crisis, we’re all in this together. While moving to a new place has added hurdles, there are kind and generous people waiting to assist you in navigating the unknowns. If you’re worried or unsure about the best ways to handle moving, we understand. Learn more about how each property is helping current and new residents move safely by contacting them directly. Simply choose which location or locations interest you most and call, email, or even text us today! There will be a property manager on the other side, waiting to answer any questions you may have. Stay well!

Much like those adorable cat memes all over the internet, our minds automatically think, “If I can fit it in the dumpster, it’s acceptable.” Unfortunately, we’re wrong and may even be breaking the law. There are some items inside your apartment that can’t go inside your communities trash or recycling dumpsters. Find out which common household items can’t go in the trash or recycling dumpsters below + the proper ways you should dispose of these items.

1] Bags & Batteries

Who wants a nice, ice cold glass of water filled with mercury and nickel?! … Nobody? … AGREED! Batteries contain toxic chemicals (like mercury and nickel) that can leak into our water systems. – Don’t toss in the trash OR recycling dumpsters

All sorts of bags; plastic bags, film/sheeting, and flexible film packaging. These items contribute to the shut down of recycling facilities worldwide, by jamming up the sorting machines. – Don’t toss in recycling dumpsters, trash dumpsters are approved. NOTE – All recyclables should be loosely tossed in the recycling dumpster. They should not be inside a plastic grocery/trash bag of any kind.

SOLUTION:

All rechargeable batteries can be disposed of at your local Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, or similar store locations.

For all other batteries, check out Call2Recycle and find a location near you!

2] Electronics

Electronics like – cell phones, computers, televisions, microwaves, blow dryers, gaming consoles, etc.

Why? Maybe you don’t enjoy mercury or nickel in your water, but what about lead and heavy metals?? … Still nothing, huh? …We agree again! Electronics are the leading cause of lead and heavy metals in our landfills, which eventually means, in our water.

SOLUTION:

Most Best Buy locations offer an electronic recycling program. You could also donate or trade-in certain items, like cellphones, through your cell phone carrier or online websites. For a list of local places, visit Earth911 here.

3] Paints

Are you a DIY kinda gal or guy? Do you have some extra paint you know you’ll never use again? If so, don’t toss that paint in your trash or recycling cans! Harmful chemicals and oils live inside paint and could seep into the ground, poisoning our water systems.

SOLUTION:

Paint (except completely dried latex paint cans, no liquids) can be dropped off at your local Hazardous Waste Resident Drop-off Center.

4] Fluorescent Light Bulbs / Fluorescent Tubes

Fluorescent light bulbs contain that hazardous little thing called mercury. Luckily, standard incandescent bulbs have no toxic chemicals and are approved to throw away in your trash dumpster.

SOLUTION:

Waste Management offers recycling kits that allow you to recycle these delicate waste materials right from the comfort of your home. Check out their fluorescent bulb and tube recycling kits here – Waste Management Recycling Kits

5] Motor Oil, Oil Filters, & Tires

Items like automobile tires, motor oil, and oil filters should not be disposed of in dumpsters. EPA Archives state that motor oil from a single oil change can contaminate one million gallons of water. Shocking, right?!

SOLUTION:

Most auto repair businesses accept old tires and motor oil. Make it easy on yourself and ask them to dispose of your old tires the day your new tires are installed.

This topic is one that’s often skimmed over during lease signings. If you ever feel on the fence about disposing of a particular item, contact your communities Property Manager or your local Waste Management / Advanced Disposal in Waukesha or Milwaukee Counties to determine if it is legal to dispose of the item in a traditional dumpster and what solutions are available to keep you from any applicable charges by your Landlord. While we humans must follow rules, cats remain the ultimate rule breakers and will forever sit, wherever they fit.

1. SET GOALS

Winter in South Eastern Wisconsin makes tossing things around, creating a chaotic mess in your apartment, SO easy to do! Before you get started reorganizing, make a plan. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you get started decluttering your home:

Set completion dates for each phase of your cleanup. Be sure to pick dates that are attainable so you don’t get frustrated.

Plan time to work on how you’ll reorganize your spaces after you’ve completed the decluttering aspect

Make ridding yourself of certain belongings something to be excited about! Instead of throwing away unwanted things, donate them to Goodwill and let another family enjoy them as much as you did. Click here to locate your nearest Goodwill store!

2. CREATE DECLUTTER ZONES

Trying to take on too much at once can be paralyzing. Instead of going from room to room, sort through like-things and group your belongings:

Clothes

Shoes

Jewelry

Important documents/keepsakes/photos

Items to be stored in garage/storage unit

3. A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING

Once you’ve scrapped the unnecessary and finally made peace with donating your 5th pair of black boots that you “got such a good deal on” during Black Friday 10 years ago. (maybe that’s just me?) Make sure you’ve designated specific places to put the things you’ve decided to keep. This is a key component to preventing clutter relapse in the future.

Luckily you’ll never have a problem organizing your belongings at our beautiful properties!

Some of the available apartments in Jefferson have large closets, and others have small ones (our closets are spacious); but no matter how generously sized the closets in your apartment are, it seems like you can never have too much storage space.

The following closet organization ideas have been compiled specifically with apartment dwellers in mind. These tips will help you maximize your closet space and get your closet organized effectively.

Before you get started on your closet organization project, it’s a great idea to declutter your closet and get rid of anything you don’t need. If you haven’t worn a particular garment in over a year, it’s a good candidate for charity donation. Getting rid of closet clutter will give you fewer things to have to organize, and it will free up additional closet space.

We suggest that you reorganize your closet at least twice a year, ideally when the weather changes at the beginning of each season. If it’s summer time, store your winter clothes in the harder-to-reach areas of the closet. Then when fall arrives, put your summer clothes in the out-of-the way storage spaces and use the main area of the closet for making your fall and winter clothing easily available.

For organizing small closets, you can create extra space by using an organizer that fits onto the closet door and hangs down over it. This is a great way to store shoes and other accessories, and it puts them in easy reach for getting dressed quickly in the morning. Hanging shoe organizers are popular with college kids living in dorm rooms, and they are just as ideal for use by apartment dwellers.

Need even more additional space? You can add strategically placed hooks for hanging additional items.

If the closet in your apartment doesn’t have shelf dividers, you can add them yourself. This is worth doing, because divided shelves make it much easier to stack things vertically.

If you add lighting to your closet, it will allow you to make the most of every inch in even the darkest corners. It would be especially convenient to install drawer lights that will light up every time you open one of the drawers.

Have a system for hanging things methodically, and be consistent in using it. You can group like items together, for example, blouses and shirts in one area, pants in another, and dresses in another. For many busy apartment dwellers, it makes even more sense to hang entire outfits together, including jewelry or accessories placed in a plastic baggie and clipped to the hanger. That way, you have everything you need to get dressed available in one spot, and you can grab it all and get dressed in a hurry.
