Holiday Decorating

If it’s your first holiday season in your new apartment, you are probably looking forward to entertaining friends and relatives. Of course, you want to show everyone your beautiful new place! How will you decorate it? Perhaps you are ready to start from scratch, or maybe you would rather bring out the traditional wreaths to make your company feel at home. You can have it both ways! Here are some holiday ideas for decorating your apartment.

The Tree

First, choose a tree. A tabletop tree is a good idea. It will save space that can be used for entertaining. Put it on one of your good tables. A festive runner underneath is a nice touch. Deck it out with lights and ornaments. The tradition of putting a tree in the window is a friendly one. If you have one of our apartments in Waukesha, the neighbors will see it driving by and be cheered up by the festive lights!

If you decide to get a cut tree, you need to keep it watered. Getting a live tree every Christmas can become a new tradition for your new apartment.

Room Decorations

Extra boughs from the tree lot or home center can run along the stair railing. Tabletop decorations are a great way to use space in an apartment. Have you inherited a table scene from childhood? You might spend some time shopping for the right figurines to create a new tableau. Frame it in lights and greenery to make it look seasonal.

Holiday Scents

The fragrance of fresh branches can fill your apartment with nostalgia and good cheer. Artificial greenery can easily substitute. It makes cleaning up a lot easier. Place a few drops of holiday-themed essential oils in an atomizer and fill the apartment with scent. Try orange blossom or bergamot for sociability, clove and frankincense for tradition.

Lights

Have you inherited lights from another location? Check them out before hanging. Never wait until after they’re on the tree to plug them in. Untangle them all, stretch them out, and then plug them in first. Then it’s easy to see what works and what doesn’t. Miniature lights would suit a smaller tree. This might be the year to choose a new color scheme for your holiday glow.

Welcoming the holidays for the first time in one of our apartments in Pewaukee is exciting. Start a tradition that will bring joy for years to come.
