A balcony or patio is nice amenity to have

Are you getting ready to make that leap into your next home? Finding an apartment community can be challenging and time consuming, but if you have an idea of what you are looking for in your new place, it will lighten the load and even be fun.

Make a written checklist of what’s important to you and use this list to make phone calls before visiting. This will help narrow your search. Apartments are not equal when it comes to upgrades and amenities. Be sure to ask about these when you call and visit. To help you get your list started, here are a few things to look for:

1. An apartment with sound barriers is a plus in an apartment community. Shared living can have its challenges with noise depending on the layout of the community and structure of the apartment. Sound barriers will help reduce it. Additionally, for those who are extra sensitive to noise, consider living on the top floor. That alone will solve a majority of the problems.

2. Living on the top floor not only alleviates noise problems, but it adds another quality to an apartment, vaulted ceilings. These ceilings add beauty to the layout of the apartment, while giving a feeling of extra space. Check out the difference between the two ceilings when you visit the complex.

3. Another consideration is the type of flooring. If it is carpet, is it wall to wall carpet and is it soft? A nice apartment should be furnished with either a new carpet or a hardwood floor. Everyone has their personal preference with this one, but if it is carpet you prefer, it should be good quality and easy to care for.

4. Spacing is important to consider as well. You may be looking for extra kitchen space or extra space in your bedroom. Walk-in closets are great way to add more storage space to your home. You can add even more room to your oversized closet by choosing an apartment that has built-in shelves, or checking to see you are able add a few shelves. Storing high in whatever space you have will also give you more room to work with.

5. If you prefer extra room in your kitchen, one of the easiest ways here is if the apartment comes with a pantry. Having a pantry allows you more counter space for loose appliances such as coffee makers and toasters and also for cooking.

6. Now, moving to just outside of your apartment, a balcony or patio is a great place to enjoy with your family and friends, especially when the weather is nice.

7. You may also want to consider if there are additional amenities on the property. If it is a goal of yours to get in shape, you should ask if a fitness center is included.

As you search for your next apartment, these various amenities should not be terribly hard to find. If you live or are looking to move to the Milwaukee area, Morgenson Realty has an apartment community that is not only affordable but includes many types of amenities and upgrades. Have fun and happy apartment hunting!
